Real Name: Nathan R

What’s your favorite book and who is your favorite author?
My favorite book is Don’t Let Pigeon Drive The Bus. I like it because it’s funny and makes me laugh.

Do you have any special hobbies or talents?
I like to play basketball, I like to play football, I like to play a lot of sports. I don’t like to clean my room.

What is your favorite thing about writing?
My favorite thing about writing is that it lets me write down want I want to say, and what I think is funny, and what I want to do.

What’s your favorite memory of 826CHI?
I would have to say, Connor. Connor, he’s funny. That’s why I like him. I like his hair a lot. He helps me a lot and whenever I don’t get it he helps me. When I try to make him laugh he makes me laugh.

What inspired you to write “Tomato Wars?”
Well, it’s because it was my first day here and I didn’t know what to write. Dexter was right next to me and I was like, “What’s your story about?” Out of nowhere I said it was Halloween and said we had tomatoes for the third time and it was insane.

What is your favorite school food? Least favorite?
My least favorite is the veggie burger because it’s slimy and I don’t like the taste. My favorite is the pizza, because it’s tastes good and the sauce takes like actual tomato sauce.

Do you like tomatoes?
No, but I like ketchup and spaghetti.

I love the end of Vampire Tomatoes, where the tomatoes turn out to be vampires. It was so surprising! How did that idea come to you?
My tutor was telling me, I think it was Jim, “Were they zombie tomatoes? Were they vampire tomatoes?” And that’s where I got the idea from. My favorite part is when the tomatoes come alive.

Do you have writing advice for other students?
Express yourself. Write what you want to write. Don’t care about what other people think, write what you want.

What’s something else you want the world to know about you?
I really like hot sauce! Because it has, like, this burn to it. Once you put it in your mouth it’s sweet but burns. I like to eat for breakfast with a Meat Lover’s skillet -- with  hash browns, bacon, sausage, and cheese. There’s this restaurant called Cozy Corner and they serve it there.

What’s your favorite brand of hot sauce?
