Hey students! If you’re between the ages of 6 and 18 and you like to write or you’ve ever had homework, then you automatically qualify as one of our favorite people. It’s true. YOU are in fact the very reason 826CHI exists, and we’d be delighted for you to join in any of our entirely free and fun programming.
Whether you've got a fancy for fiction, you’ve got a passion for poetry, or you’ve just got a lot of Social Studies homework, we’re here for you. Click on the links below to find out more!
826CHI offers free drop-in tutoring Monday - Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., most every day that you’re in school. Our super nice tutors are available to work one-on-one with you on writing assignments, homework of all subjects, and publishing projects. Whether you’ve got a really hard assignment or you’d just like to finish your homework sooner in the day (Rock Band 2 isn’t going to play itself), we’re here for you. If you are a high school student, check out our special High School Tutoring hours: Wednesdays from 6-8pm, and Sundays from 4-6pm. For more details and to register, click here.
During the evenings, weekends, and throughout the summer, 826CHI offers free workshops in topics like short stories, comic book making, photography and writing, TV writing and food-inspired memoir writing. There are also some really crazy ones like Travel the World Through Chocolate and Sock Puppet Theater. All of our workshops are led by talented volunteers — including published authors, editors, educators, playwrights, actors, journalists, and artists.
If you can refer to your grade not just by number,
but also by a swanky title like “freshman” or “senior”, click here.
At 826CHI, we believe in publishing student work (a.k.a. your amazing writing). Student writing is published year-round in pint-sized books for you to take home and share with family, friends, and fellow writers. Have you written something outstanding that you’d like to share with the world? Submit your work to our anthology, The 826CHI Compendium.
