More Chicken Than Chicken

December 15th—

With the semester wrapping up, we've set the printer, chopping machine and binder into overdrive. Adding more weight to our bookshelves are three new books published by 826CHI: We Suddenly Heard Something Fall, a collection from the high schoolers at Gage Park; It's Not a Book if It's Empty featuring pieces written by Wells High Students, in conjunction with After School Matters; and More Chicken, Than Chicken, the latest from students in our after-school program. Stop by the Boring Store to pick up the latest! They conveniently fit in oversized red socks that may or may not be above a friends' fireplace this season!

Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving!

November 24th—

When we asked the students what they were thankful for at our annual Thanksgiving Potluck, they echoed past generations with gratitude for the timeless treasures:

Family, Friends, Food, Shelter, Justin Bieber.

We, too, are thankful for these.

The students also gave - without being bribed!- thanks for 826CHI. We thought it most appropriate to share this, as they are really thanking you. Big thanks for helping to build this community dedicated to students' growth and knowledge-expansion through the powerful tool of writing.

We are incredibly thankful for you!

Cornucopialy,

Mara, Kait, Zach, Kendra, Molly, Sandy and Patrick

Essay Fiesta Turns Two ... with Enthusiasm!

Essay Fiesta Turns Two ... with Enthusiasm!

November 22nd—

We salute Keith and Alyson as their terrific reading series, Essay Fiesta turned 2 last night! Essay Fiesta is a monthly reading series specializing in first-person, non-fiction essays and, of course, an awesome raffle (with proceeds benefiting 826CHI!). For the big second anniversary Keith and Alyson pulled out all the stops, introducing, amongst an already awesomely crowded roster of terrific performers (like Ian Belknap and 826CHI volunteer Monty) a certain star of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm ... Mr. Jeff Garlin! Congrats again to the Fiesta-ers! Here's to another great year!
