Cheaters Raise Over $14,000!

Cheaters Raise Over $14,000!

October 24th—

The 4th annual Scrabble for Cheaters tournament was, as they say, Scrabtacular.

After the tiles went back in their pouches, the boards were folded up and the fog settled (thanks mini fog machine!), the grand total raised by our generous cheaters was over $14,000.

The 32 teams battled their way through the tournament bracket, with the championship match pitting the returning champs, Tile Driver, against newcomers Qs Up Out Sleeves. A big congratulations to the victors, Amanda Nyren and Matt Present of Qs Up Our Sleeves.

Also a big WOW! to the neck and neck lead fundraising efforts of Two Little Indians (Aparna Puppala and Meera Raja) and The Jamal Malik's (Kapil Khanna and Ashish Shah).

Check out photos of the competitors, the costumes, the confetti covered floor at http://www.flickr.com/photos/826chicago/sets/72157627843479617/.

A huge thank you to the 64 charlatans and the hundreds of people they swindled into donating their teams. Because of their tremendous efforts, 826CHI can continue to provide free writing workshops and after-school homework help to thousands of Chicago students!

Well done cheaters! Thanks for helping our students prosper.

The Fantastic George Orange to Perform

The Fantastic George Orange to Perform

August 29th—

-Knock knock.
-Who's there?
-Orange.
-Orange who?
-Orange you glad that the Fantastic George Orange is going to be performing his comedy and clown routine for the benefit of 826CHI?
-Why, yes. Yes, I am.

We're thrilled to be partnering with the sure-to-live-up-to-its name, Brilliant Corners, vaudeville-wondershow-extravanganza the weekend of Sept. 16th - Sept. 18th at Eckhart Park (Chicago and Noble). On the third day of the fun, Sunday September 18th, at 5:30pm, we'll be co-presenting The Fantastic George Orange under a true old world circus tent! Tickets are only $15 and part of the proceeds will go directly to us! Grab yer tickets here

Take a trip with us down the rabbit hole of his show - an experience not to be missed. George Orange has dedicated himself to bringing a new breed of unconventional and thought provoking comedy to the broad audiences of street theater festivals and circus big tops. As an eccentric European clown and slack-rope dancer from Cardiff, George is often compared to Mr. Bean and Jacque Tati. He captivates audiences, crossing the boundaries of language and age, with his charming, mostly non-verbal, very visual, show. Opening music provided by Albanie and Her Fellas!
