Our birthday party was a hit!

Our birthday party was a hit!

August 28th—

An enormous thank you to all who joined us on Ace Hotel Chicago's rooftop for our birthday party—what a joyful way to kick off the school year! We're especially grateful to Ace for hosting us, to our emcees Yerika and Aanika, to proud student-readers Diego, Julissa, and Mayra, and to TASHA and Friends of the Bog for their soulful and celebratory musical sets.
Check our social media pages for more photos from the event. Hope you had a great 826 Day!

Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day

August 26th—

“I discovered my identity as a woman when I was eight years old. I was obsessed with the movie Tarzan and loved the idea of running wild with all the animals and just being free in every way . . .” —Lauryn, 12th grade

Today, Women’s Equality Day, commemorates the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution which granted some women in the U.S. the right to vote.

At 826CHI, we’re dedicated to uplifting the voices of our student-authors whose stories might otherwise be overlooked. We believe in the value of listening when our young people tell us about themselves and their world, as their insights redefine what it means to be a woman, to be a Chicagoan, to be a writer. In her essay, Lauryn continues: “I define me.”
