In-School Projects

Because it can be difficult for teachers and students to make it to our center during the school day, 826CHI brings itself into schools across the city. Thanks to our dedicated volunteer pool, we're able to bring a team of writing coaches to give individualized attention to students as they tackle various projects. Do you have an idea for a writing project and could use the assistance of 826CHI's educators and volunteers?

Educational Partnership Requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Due to high demand and limited capacity, we can only take on a few partnerships per season. However, we encourage you to apply regardless and we'll keep you in mind for future projects. If you have any questions, please contact Maria@826chi.org. You can apply for a partnership here.

Overview

If you are a teacher and your students could use additional, individualized help with any sort of writing project, 826CHI can dispatch an enthusiastic batch of tutors to your school. In-School projects usually focus on CPS students in grades 4 and up. Typically, we commit to sending 4-5 volunteers to work in small groups with your students to improve a writing assignment or launch something brand-new. Volunteers often stay for 1.5 hours at a time—at times working with two classes back-to-back. We often defer to the genius of the teacher and allow them to design the project, then 826CHI volunteers attack it with all the support we can.
