Because it can be difficult for teachers and students to make it to our center during the school day, 826CHI brings the program to the schools. Thanks to our dedicated volunteer pool, we get to cool off on hot summer days while practicing cannonballs and spectacular dives. The other dedicated volunteer pool allows us to bring amazing 826CHI tutors into classrooms around the city to provide one-on-one assistance to students as they tackle various projects like Young Authors books, research papers, newspaper articles, writing assignments, literary magazines, and college entrance essays.
If you are a teacher and your students could use additional one-on-one help with any sort of writing project, 826CHI can dispatch an enthusiastic batch of tutors to your school. In-School projects usually focus on CPS students in grades 4 and up. Typically we send 4-5 volunteers and work in small groups or one-on-one with your students to improve a writing assignment. In the past we’ve worked on Young Authors projects, writing essays, short stories, poetry books, personal statements, research papers, etc. We are open to other ideas as well! Volunteers often stay for 1 1/2 hours at a time – at times working with 2 classes back to back. We often defer to the genius of the teacher and allow him or her to design the project and then 826CHI tutors attack it with all the support we can.
At this time we are no longer accepting inschool project applications for this school year. Join our educator email list for future updates.
