Join 826CHI in celebrating our sweet 16th birthday on Zoom! The event, while being online, will still be a unique evening, honoring the organization, the compassionate staff members, wonderful volunteers, and incredibly creative students. Without these dynamic groups, 826CHI would be nowhere near as successful as it is today.
This online event will feature musical performances by local Chicago artists who will adapt student writing into original songs. Three 826CHI students will be paired with three musicians who will create musical masterpieces from poems and essays from our most recent publications, Happy as a Rollercoaster//Tan feliz como una montana rusa, Chaos Comes Naturally, and Let Us Keep What We Love. Throughout the evening, students will read their stories aloud before handing the mic over to their paired musician to perform live.
In addition to these performances, the evening will feature a community-centered activity, and special words from our devoted volunteers. It will be a great way for people interested in learning more about 826CHI to see the focus and impact of the organization, as well as a means for those already involved to be updated on what the organization has been doing.
Despite the uncertainty of our pandemic stricken world, Chicago students deserve to have their words and stories shine. Help us celebrate their work and 826CHI by attending the virtual event on August 26th from 7:00-8:30pm on Zoom. This event is free and open to the public. Register to receive a Zoom invite here.
