Writing the Mind

Teen Writers Studio student, Lina, will be facilitating a mental health + writing workshop on Saturday, May 14th, 1-2.30pm at Sip of Hope. This workshop is open to young people ages 12-18 and is an excellent way for young people to use writing to engage with their emotions, work through challenges they are facing, and increase their self-esteem.

826 Day Store Event

Bring yourself and your family to the Wicker Park Secret Agent Supply Co. to kick off a new school year and celebrate 826CHI's community of authors. There will be readings by student-authors and writers from our community and a family-friendly collaborative storytelling activity! The party starts at 1pm and continues till 6pm with features starting at the top of every hour. Connect with our 826CHI community, support our student-authors, and start the school-year with an afternoon of fun!

Eat Your Words

An evening of art, storytelling, and Chicago food benefitting 826CHI.

Join us for our 8th annual gala celebrating and supporting the stories and voices of Chicago students. Known as one of the most fun galas in Chicago, Eat Your Words is an evening of impeccable food and music (because, Chicago), one-of-a-kind art by Chicago artists and inspired by student writing, interactive storytelling, and the unique opportunity for every guest to leave a published author.

826CHI Teacher Series #2: Inspiring Students to Write

The second part of our teacher series will lead educators through the various different tools to bring writing into their classrooms using 826 Digital as a platform (and other amazing writing resources that exist). Teachers will learn about the writing to publishing pipeline and the various ways to learn how to publish student writing professionally, DIY, digitally, on SoundCloud, via music, etc. Our event partner Fatpour will be providing teachers with free drink tickets after the workshop!

826CHI Teacher Series #3: Teachers As Writers

Register for 826CHI's final Teacher Series of the year on December 6th, 5-7pm! Our third session will allow teachers to experience a writing workshop as a way of learning more about writing facilitation through participating in a workshop themselves. The session will end with reflection about the activity, as well as what it means to edit, and best practices for editing. Hosted by our event partner Fatpour Wicker Park (free drinks tickets provided!)
