Session 2: Make and Take (DIY Student Publishing in the Classroom)

This session gives teachers tangible, ready to use publishing techniques to take back to the classroom. We'll help students build confidence in themselves as they create their own publications.

Session 3: Bringing Stories to Life (Performing Student Writing)
May 20th, 10am-12pm
Our final session will deliver a variety of resources to guide students as they share their writing with their peers and families.

Word Lab students will practice auditory, oral, and written language skills through creating imaginary worlds, fantastic characters, and more! A typical day involves reading aloud a picture book, asking questions, learning basic watercolor techniques, sharing artwork, writing stories inspired by artwork and playing games.

Students in Theater and Playwriting camp will learn to write a script and perform an original play. This 2 week camp takes place in our writing lab in Wicker Park. Students will spend lots of time outdoors and engaged in a variety of activities to spark creativity and expression.

Join a team of top chefs and other young food experts to develop your writing skills and your taste buds! Students will learn how to write food reviews, taste the best this city has to offer, and create writing that will be read by foodies and chefs all over Chicago.
July 31st - Aug 10th

Learn from a team of professional poets and writers, sample a variety of writing styles, find your voice, and reflect on what kind of writer you want to be! Students will have the opportunity to share their work with a live audience, and their creative work will be published.
