While my sister is unpacking,
I take off my sandals
and feel the hot sand against my feet.
It hurts but I endure it
until my feet are comfortable in the sand.
Whenever I take a step,
I feel the soft sand against my feet.
I walk to the water
and when the shores comes up,
I feel the cold water of Lake Michigan splashing under me.
Relieving all of the stereotypes and the violence that Chicago has.
I walk closer to the water when it reaches
all the way up to my knees. I look down and see
these tiny little shells,
thinking if I pick them up they would break.
I look around seeing people playing,
relaxing, and laughing.
Realizing that this is
our Oasis of Home.
