Traces from Family Marks

I am from the trace of

my parents’ ancestors.

The smell from my grandpa’s chile rellenos recipe

that ties the family together.

I am from the bracelets

that hold me and my best

friends together.

I am from the truth that describes who I am.

I am from the book The Fault In Our Stars,

that tears me apart

each time I read it.

I am from my grandma’s house

with those strong memories,

like that one Christmas we all learned something new.

That I know.

It will never set us apart,

Our trust is like magnets.
